As I approach my late 30’s, I needed to up the ante on my skincare routine - but it seemed overwhelming on where to start. Lordy, I’m in my late 30’s still rocking the Clinique 3-step routine from my teens. I have spent the better part of this decade pregnant or breastfeeding, so I was nervous about switching to stronger products. After countless trips to the dermatologist and hours of reading online blogs, I decided that everyone had a different opinion on how to best combat the signs of aging. I was worried about spending a lot of money on products that may or may not work, so I kept it simple.

Differin Acne Treatment is not just your high schooler's acne treatment. Differin is the first and only FDA-approved full prescription retinoid available without a prescription. I added Differin gel into my nightly skin care routine and have been pleasantly surprised. It is safe to use while pregnant and breastfeeding, although you should still check with your doctor. Even though, it’s advertised as an acne treatment, it is a retinoid that I use on my entire face and neck after cleansing and toning. Finish it off by using a moisturizer on top and DON’T forget sunscreen. Totally worth the investment of $25, it has helped me with fine lines, texture and pigmentation issues.

Up and Up Scent Escapes Shaving Cream in Coconut Orchid - I just had my third child in four years. Instagram and Facebook have me envying everyone’s summer vacations. Beach side shots of people’s feet in the sand, friends sun kissed faces in exotic locations have me dying to get away. Alas, the three kids have my jet setter legs grounded. So, in between dress up and playing family (which I don’t understand why we need to “play” family. I live “family” everyday) I find some time to take a shower and occasionally shave my legs. When I open up this shaving gel and smell the sweet island scent of coconut, I am transported to a faraway place where I can almost hear the sounds of waves crashing and music playing. If you hate shaving, but love pina coladas, check this out.

Pixi makes a stellar Glow Tonic which is a glycolic acid that exfoliates while leaving the skin glowing. Worth a shot, it sells for $15 and its list of ingredients rival that of other high end acids sold in Sephora for triple the price.

Need a sun kissed glow without the expensive beach vacay? Try Milani’s Baked Blush in Luminoso. Some would suggest this is a dupe for Nars famous Orgasm blush, but I think it stands alone. This blush will leave your cheeks flushed and youthful. It is neutral enough to compliment warm and cool tones and it is good in quality and color.

Have you heard about the original Beauty Blender and the airbrush look it gives to your foundation?  If you don’t want to splurge, try the Real Techniques sponge. While I prefer the original, no doubt this sponge is a close second. Especially with the $6 price tag.
